Welcome to our Daily Dose of DIY Blog Hop
Hi Everyone, It’s that time of year where you can sit back and enjoy those “Lazy Days of Summer”. I love how Spring sets the stage for Summer, with all the beautiful gardening, Spring cleaning and the decorating that seems to ease itself right into Summer. It’s a time where you step back, relax and enjoy those long warm Summer days, BBQ’s and enjoy the great outdoors spaces with family and friends while enjoying all that was created over the Spring. Today I and 5 others will be sharing our front porches with you all which I find is just as important as decorating my home and back yard…After all it is what actually sets the “Stage” to welcome all your guest into your home.
I shared some exciting news at the Share It One More Time Party, about how I have teamed up with five other bloggers, where we will be sharing a “Dose of DIY” every third Monday each month. Have you or do you decorate your front doors and porches? Today 6 of us will be sharing our Summer Front Porches in hopes to bring some inspiration to you all.
Before I share how I decorated my front porch, I would love to introduce you to some very talented bloggers who are part of the “Dose of DIY” team. Some of you may know them already, but personally, I have just met them myself and so happy I did! Don’t you just love making new friends? Well here are a few I am sure you would love to get to know if you don’t already know them:
Kristi Haight from Chatfield Court, Michele Mower Alger from Shelstring, Jill Elaine Flory from Sew a Fine Seam, Sarah Vanderkooy from Creative Ramblings, Kim Allison from Exquisitely Unremarkable, Tammy Henderson (Me) One More Time.
I couldn’t wait to show and share with all on how I decorated my front porch. I shared a bit of it over at Michele’s from Shelstrings Summer Home Tour Series the other day if you missed that, hop on over if you would like to see more on how I brought summer into my home.
Today, Dose of DIY we will be sharing ideas on Front Doors and Porches, I decided to share my summer porch, while some of the others will be sharing their front doors, either way, I am sure you will finds lots of inspiration to “welcome” your guest to your home.
Summer Decorating Ideas for a Small Porch
It started out when I found this vintage sewing box, knowing I would never use it for what it is actually intended for, but seeing it as a planter for the front porch and address box. It was in pretty good shape, other that one of the lids was broken..I’ll share what I did later in this post on what I did with it.
I gave it a white wash and stenciled the address on the front and filled it with some of my favorite flowers.
I decided to keep only one of the chairs on the front porch (that usually sits along side one another and a small table). Using it as a plant stand by placing a beautiful fern on the seat of the chair. I love ferns and hoping this one will live, since it stays pretty shady here I have high hopes!
Are last gazebo was torn up by the wind and we kept the metal corner pieces. I knew they would come in handy some day.
Here I used it as a trellis to hang a few mason jars tied with twine filled with some faux hydrangeas. When guest are expected these will be filled with real flowers from the back yard garden.
Here is where the broken lid comes in…
the broken lid gave me the perfect excuse to create a “Welcome” sign.
This is probably the easiest Welcome sign I have ever made.
After the white wash, I simply stenciled W E L C O M E, drilled a whole in the insert of the lid, added a vintage knob and hung it on the “new” trellis. That’s it…so easy anyone could do it!
added a new welcome mat to complete it. I just love the colors of this mat and how it all coordinates to complete my Summer Porch.
