Plant Stands and Hanging Basket Transformation

Wire planters and Hanging Baskets Transformation

Hope everyone had a great weekend!  As you all know I did my first roadkill rescue a while back and Friday when I got home from work I noticed my neighbor was throwing away a bunch of wire plant stands.  I was thinking to myself  "what?   Are you seriously going to just throw those away?"  I went in and told Mr.OMT about it and he was like "Don't you dare go through our neighbors trash!"  He added that it would "embarrass him"  and actually, honestly,  I really couldn't have done it anyway.  As it turned out I was taking some trash out to the trash cans and she just happened to be out there at the same time.   I called out to her and started kidding with her, telling her all you have to do is paint those.  She told me she knew, but they had been sitting in the garage too long and her husband told her to get rid of them.  She then asked me do you want them?  I was like oh yeah!  (all the time thinking Mr. OMT is going to be embarrassed and not too happy about this, him thinking I went trash digging.)  She also added  "I have some hanging baskets too, would you like those as well?"   Are you kidding me?  YES!

Here are some of them and down below is what I planned on using for now..."I have a idea"
OK ... so,  2 plant stands, one taller than the other, 2 hanging baskets with the chains...Can you guess what I did with them?
Any Idea?

Space is very limited on the patio, so I knew I didn't want to take up anymore space, but did want  to eliminate some of the pots of flowers.

I stacked the taller one on top of the smaller one.  See how it interlocks at the bottom of the legs into the top of the smaller one?

With the hanging  baskets, I placed one on top of the other to create a topiary ball

I used the clips on the the chain (nothing goes to waste) to secure the two hanging baskets together, which will also be nice and allow me to tend  to the flowers I placed in the bottom portion.

I had this finial I picked up awhile back  from a thrift store.

I placed it upside down in the hole of the top wire basket.

Two of the baskets still had moss in them so I used those, all I had to do was add the soil and flowers

I love these double lemon flowers, so cute!

I was thinking of painting the whole thing, but we decided we liked the look of the rust and the white together, so it was left as is.

added some small ivy and other cuttings to the finial.

added an old rusted out bucket which holds some of my herbs, to the bottom level plant stand.

So, I was able to take 3 potted plants off of the patio and make it into one!

Which now makes it a little easier for Mr. OMT to water! Three  less pots to maneuver around!
Makes him happy, (oh and he really likes this) and I am so happy the way it turned out!
So ... what would you call this?  I am thinking 2 tiered topiary Plant Stand?
Actually, I love it! So, one more rescue under my belt, lol
I hope all of you have a wonderful week!

  16. Clever, clever girl! And to think you almost missed getting this treasure trove. You must have an artistic eye to "see" this sculpture and make it work. Came over from Melrose.

  25. Hi Tammy,

So glad you're featuring your Top Posts. I absolutely adore this planter! So much that I am pinning it, and will try to replicate it next month. I have an old planter stand sitting on the side yard, empty, lonely just waiting for some TLC. Now I'm inspired!

    Have a wonderfully creative 2013.
