Red White and Blue Faux Melamine Plates/Dessert Tray
I am really not one to go all out on decorating the house for Memorial Day or Forth of July, but I do like to set up a festive table for these holidays. While I was getting out my red, white and blue table decorations, I decided this year I wanted some permanent dish ware rather than using decorative paper plates. I started looking around and even considered melamine plates and found these rustic melamine plates, for everyday use.
Deciding, I really didn’t want to spend a lot of money on something that was only going to used once, but still wanted something red, white and blue for the occasion to dress up the table I decided to create my own.

How to make Red, White and Blue faux melamine plates
I do have to stop and mention the scissors made by fiskar in the above picture… If you have problems with your hands like I do these scissors are the best!
OK..back to the plates…
Once you have cut out your circle lay it on the front side of your plate
I used Premium Waterproof Silicone.
Apply a thin layer of silicone to the top edge of the plate
Place your second clear plastic plate on top
press down on the top plate and wipe off an excess silicone from edges
Warning: These are not dishwasher safe and DO NOT place in microwave, because I used a water proof silicone on the inside edge of the bottom plate water will not get in between the plates and it is safe for food. They can be hand washed and re-used for the next holiday if you wish to do so.
To Decorate the Champagne Glasses
take some of the table cover and cut strips with pinking shears
lay the strips out and placed them on some star wire garland
twisted it around the strips and tied it to the stem of the champaign glass. I used my hot glue gun and placed a small amount to hold it in place.
To Make a Red, White and Blue 3 Tier Dessert Tray
- 3 plastic champagne glasses
- wire star garland
- hot glue
- glue gun
On the last layer (which is really your first layer) you will decorate your champagne glass same as the one above
glue to the top plate and fill the champagne glass with a balloon weight centerpiece
