No Sew Valance on a Window Shelf Cornice

No Sew Valance on a Window Shelf Cornice

Guest Room: No Sew Valance on a Window Shelf Cornice

With the weather we are having here,  104 degrees to be exact… way too hot for me.   I will not be doing any outside projects that’s for sure!   The air is on and  I am taking full advantage of  a cool house and will share more on the guest room.

Last week I shared the wall art I made with faux ceiling tiles on some cork boards  I covered with fabric.  With the same fabric I made this valance and if you look in the corner I also framed some in a photo frame.

To make this “No Sew Valance”,  you can make it any length you want, cut 60 – 1″ strips from the fabric until I had enough to fill the rod
1 yard = 3 ft
 The area I covered is  5′ 9 1/2″ wide.
I probably could have just purchased 2 yards, but I purchased extra leaving room for any mistakes and
because I wanted to make sure I had enough,  I ended up  purchasing 3 yards.

After cutting all the strips, taking one strip at a time, fold it in half and laid it under the rod,  with the folded end at the bottom and the 2 tails at the top

take your two ends going over the rod and down to the bottom part of the folded strip and feed it through

Pull it tight around the wooden curtain rod.

Continue this with each strip moving each strip down the rod until it is done and has reached the fullness you want.
After all the strips are on you will want to trim it to the length you want or if it is at the length you desire, you are done.
This shelf fits perfectly  above the window and with a rod made from a closet rod dowel, up under the shelf on each end are closet rod flanges to hold the rod and valance.

This valance was really easy to make.   The hardest part is the time cutting the strips.  I love how this window cornice  has a shelf to decorate on and also be used to add a valance.

I still have the office/staging area on the other side of the room to share… I am still working on it and will share it when it is done.

If you enjoyed this post and would like to see more like it… I would love it if you followed along!

 Till Next Post…Xo Tammy

Great effect with the graphic black and white colors. I have the wood to make a shelf for my patio window and this would be a great way to add interest to the window (if I ever get the shelf built that is).
