Farmhouse Sideboard Hutch Top Makeover
Today, I am sharing my farmhouse sideboard/buffet and top hutch DIY makeover and how I married the two furniture pieces to get the “farmhouse hutch” I have been longing for in our dining room area.
Happy first Day of Spring! We are having some crazy weather here, or this could be normal for around here, I don’t know. I am still pretty new here to this area, I got so excited for a couple of days when we had some beautiful Spring weather and now it’s back to raining, cloudy and cold. I don’t like wishing time away, but seriously, I am so over Winter, Come on Spring!
I have been wanting a farmhouse hutch for some time now, I have this sideboard, I didn’t want to get rid of it and there really is no other place for it other than the wall in the dining room, so I kind of gave up on the idea of a hutch, till I found this hutch topper. I got very excited, in hopes that it would fit and be the perfect for the top of the sideboard to create a farmhouse hutch.
How to create and Marry to Pieces to create a Farmhouse Hutch
the nice thing about the topper it was already sanded and in good shape, so all I had to do was paint it. I gave it a few coats of paint.
to marry the two pieces the sideboard was also painted to match. since I lost one of the knobs the last time I gave this sideboard a look, new hardware was added to the top drawer. This sideboard has gone thru many changes since I have had it, the one previous to this one, the top was sanded and stained in a dark walnut finish.
In this refinish, I lightly sand the sideboard/buffet cabinet and gave it a fresh coat of painted it the same color as the hutch topper. One other thing I did was paint the edges of the sideboard.

What to Put In A Hutch?
Now for the fun part, What to put in it and on top of the newly refinished and repurposed Hutch/sideboard.
Starting with the top:
To fill in the gab between the ceiling and top of the hutch I added a white pitcher filled with greenery, to corbels used as book ends with my collection of Woman’s Day Cookbooks.
I knew I wanted to display my re-found platters in it, each shelf received a couple of platters, as you can see I have a love for soup Terrine’s, a few of them found a new home in the newly refinished Farmhouse sideboard/hutch top along with some white pitchers, plates. A vintage scale was added for an interest piece.
