How to Turn an Upper Cabinet into a Sideboard with Hairpin Legs
In my last post, I shared where I found the perfect rug for my modern farmhouse kitchen eating area. You may have noticed the the sideboard along the window? Today I am sharing my DIY upper cabinet and how it was repurposed and refinished into a modern farmhouse sideboard with hairpin legs.
Refinished and Repurposed Upper Kitchen Cabinet
When the cabinet was delivered, I then realized it wasn’t exactly the size and what I had envisioned it would be. I went ahead and sanded the cabinet and gave it a coat of grey paint with primer. Still not happy with it and not sure exactly what to do with it sat in the workshop for a long time.
Finding the Right Legs for a repurposed Cabinet
I tossed around the idea of turning it into a bench, adding wood legs. Because the cabinet is narrow the type and size of legs to put on this cabinet was important. A french leg would take away the farmhouse look of this cabinet. I could have gone with a mid-century leg, but that really isn’t my style. I finally decided to order some 16″ black hairpin legs and see how that would look giving it a modern farmhouse feel.
Once the hairpin legs were add to the cabinet, I feel in love with this now “repurposed sideboard”. Let me back up for a minute once the legs were added I gave the cabinet a light sanding , added 2 coats of white paint. The hardware was painted black.
I love how how it fits perfectly along the window in our eating area of the kitchen.
