SEEING STARS TELESCOPE MAKEOVER
Mr. OMT and I went to check out a
new Thrift Store this weekend. We ran across this telescope, have you heard of
Savers? Well we just got one not far from us, so of course we had to
go check it out. I love how clean and organized this store is and the
prices are pretty good too.
We found this telescope for $7.99
and a few more finds. We both thought it would be fun and a nice
little addition to the family room now also an office. Mr. OMT now
has claimed this "his" area... OK really, but OK too funny. Now that he
has put his claims to this room, oh wait "HIS" room.
We received this roll top desk from my Dad, this is how the whole "His Room" came about. He says I have all the other rooms and he only has the garage...OK what else does a man need? Where is the tissue?
No seriously I don't mind, I just think it is funny and cute don't tell him I used the "cute" word in the same sentence. Too funny!

It's not an expensive telescope we bought it with the intention to be used as decor piece for "his" room.
He did say to go ahead and do whatever I
wanted to it. So maybe I should add some flowers to it? Joking! Here is
what I ended up doing to it.
A while back we used this map on our
coffee table you can see it HERE.
With the leftover pieces of the map, I decided I would use it on the base of the telescope.
Mr. OMT removed the parts and I cut the map to size and with Mod Podge I attached the map to the base with Mod Podge and then applied the Mod Podge to the outside of the map as well.

While that was drying I used some rub and
buff and covered all the other parts of the telescope including the stand.
After I applied the rub and buff I took
some black craft paint and stippled it to give it more of an antique look. I did this technique on a road kill rescue outdoor
table you can see it HERE
Before and After
Here is the roll top desk that started all this "His" rooom.
The Chair is actually a thrift store cloth office chair that was painted you can see it here faux leather desk chair
I re-did the telescope and another project all while Mr. OMT was taking a nap. When he woke up his remark was WOW!!! things don’t even get out of the truck and in the door and they are already re-finished. He really liked it and it does look quite handsome sitting next to the roll top desk.
(shhh don't tell him, but he looks quite handsome sitting here too in "HIS" Area.)

Visiting from the Cowgirl Up party. Love your makeover. Very clever to cover the telescope with the map. And I think adding the rub and buff and black paint really made the piece look like a high-end catalog piece.
